INEC releases timetable for 2027 elections
CITIZENS COMPASS— As various political parties are warming up for the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, issued a timetable for the elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja.
According to the timetable, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will be held on March 6.
While it noted it had made its submissions to the National Assembly, the electoral umpire conceded that some items in the schedule of activities could be impacted by the time the lawmakers passed the electoral act.
Recall that INEC had, on February 4, disclosed that despite the apparent delay in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly, it had finalised the election timetable and schedule of activities.
