Kaduna forestry students regain freedom

BARELY 56 days after their abduction, the  students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, have been released by their abductors.

Sources claimed their release was aided by the Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi and the dialogue committee with support from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

On March 11, 2021, some suspected bandits invaded the school located in Afaka along the Kaduna International Airport Road and abducted 39 students.

Their abductors demanded N500m as ransom for their release after which ten of them were earlier released in two batches of five each.

At press time details of their release was sketchy as the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige could not be reached.

However, the Chairman of the forum of the abducted students’ parents, Malam Abdullahi Usman was said to have confirmed their release.
