Lagos issues quit notice to roadside traders on Badagry Expressway

CITIZENS COMPASS —THE Lagos state government on Monday, September 11, 2023, issued a quit notice to roadside traders along the Badagry Expressway to vacate the axis. 

Jubril Gawat, a media aide to the Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, disclosed in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) that the Permanent Secretary, Office of Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola issued the quit notice.

He disclosed that Daramola has also warned people against squatting under bridges and other illegal occupants on Badagry Expressway.

“In other to ensure the sustainability of the recently constructed sections of the Lagos Badagry Expressway corridor and avoid compromise of the integrity of the bridges, the Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to address the tremendous abuse noticed at various points along the corridor leading to severe degradation,” Daramola said.

He added that Engineer Daramola issued the quit notice while speaking during a sensitization and advocacy campaign aimed at promoting the required attitudinal change as well as encouraging residents and commuters to take ownership of the project.

Daramola said that the Lagos state government has ensured residents also enjoy the basic amenities like good roads and bridges, proper drainage channel, pedestrian setbacks and walkways, railings and man-holes covers amongst others all over the state.
