Man beheads aunt, 65, in Cross River

A 24 years old man, Christian Edem Eyo, popularlly called  Etebong, on Wednesday, allegedly beheaded his aunt in Cross River State.

The suspect was said to have macheted a Police officer detached to Mbukpa Division.

The incident occured at No 7, Inyang Street, Mbukpa area.

According to  eyewitness’ account, the incident occurred at about 5 am after the deceased left her apartment to use the bathroom.

An eye wítness, Grace Edem said the the dastardly act was exposed when a worshipper at a nearby church, who was observing a vigil suspected that Christian was burying a headless body.

She said the suspect took the head of the deceased into his apartment before the church members raised the alarm and invited a local vigilante group who immediately alerted the Mbukpa Divisional Police.

She said, “Upon the arrival of the Police , Christian, allegedly confronted them and macheted one personnel before he was overpowered and taken away.”

Thousands of onlookers were said to have besieged the scene.

The fresh head of the woman was seen inside the darkroom close to a diabolic room being occupied by the suspect.

Items found in the room were candles, flowers, oils and other fetish items.

Also found in his room were two graves and a deep hole.

Christian was said to have said thus::

“I am 24 years old. I work as a bouncer at 125 Old Ikang Road Calabar. The woman wanted to seduce me.

“The deep hole you saw inside my apartment is an empowerment area. That’s where I empower myself.”

When youth leaders approached the father of the suspect, simply identified as Ete Etebong who lives on Waddel Street, he dismissed them, saying his son killed his aunt and that he will soon be released from detention at Mbukpa police station.

Police PRO Irene Ugbo said she was yet to be briefed on the matter.
