Mob kills woman over alleged witchcraft

 

CITIZENS COMPASS –A mob has reportedly killed an elderly woman in Benue State over witchcraft allegations.

Two people are currently being interrogated following the killing.

The incident took place on Christmas Eve in Egba village, Agatu Local Government Area of the State.

The Benue State Police Command arrested the duo when it got wind of the killing.

The suspects have been identified as 50-year-old Bako and 40-year-old Oyaje Clement.

Confirming the incident In a statement, spokesperson for the Command, SP Catherine Anene, condemned the incident describing it as part of a growing trend of mob justice in the region, often targeting elderly individuals accused of witchcraft.

“On December 24, 2024, around 7:00 p.m., we received information about the killing of an aged woman over allegations of witchcraft in Egba village, Agatu LGA.

“Following investigations, two suspects were arrested in connection to the case.”
