Mother, son trapped as truck upturns in  Lagos 

… Driver injured 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, rescued a mother and her nine-year old  son underneath an upturned truck along the Lagos – Abeokuta expressway. 

The truck was fully loaded with sand when it was upturned by Danco Filling Station inward Iyana-Ipaja. 

According to LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq who confirmed the accident to Citizens Compass, in a statement, said the driver of the upturned sand diesel truck with number plate, AGL 48 YD, the truck lost control and got overturned as a result of reckless driving. 

He said the woman, her nine-year old son and the driver were seriously injured.

He said, “Immediate investigation revealed that the driver of the truck lost control as a result of reckless driving and got upturned while dragging Right Of Way (R.O.W) with another heavily loaded containerised trailer inward underneath  Iyana-Ipaja Bridge.

“LASTMA officials from Zone 16 led by Salau Akeem (Alfa) carried out the rescue operations while ambulances from the  State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) took the injured mother and her son including the truck driver to General Hospital for immediate medical treatment.

“Police men from Ile-Epo Police Division provided security backup till the upturned truck was fully evacuated from the road for free vehicular movement.

“The General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Bakare Oki however appealed to motoring public particularly truck drivers to maintain speed limits and stop dragging right of way with other road users.”
