CITIZENS COMPASS — Oluwoye Community Development Association (CDA), Ibeshe in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (IBLCDA), Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, has inaugurated 14 new officers to paddle its affairs.

The officers were inaugurated on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Jovibest Primary School Playground in the community.

The inauguration was conducted by representatives of the LCDA; Imam Abdul Ibrahim, Head of Department (HOD), Agric, Mrs Yekinni Amina and Oduntan Taiwo Hassan, Senior Community Development Officers.

Among the new officers are; Mr Stanley Okungbuwa (Chairman), Mr yusuf Bola Abdulraheem (1st Vice Chairman). Mr Atinsola Abimbola (2nd Vice Chairman), Mrs Oke Joy Odoh, Treasurer, Mrs Adebambo Feyisayo Funmilayo and Sofiyullahi Tola Murtadoh (Asst Secretary).

In his welcome address, the Immediate past chairman of the CDA, Pastor FREDRICK Akinmayowa Olanipekun

lamented the hurdles some pioneer officers of the CDA went through before recording some achievement that residents are now enjoying.

Going down memory lane, he said the CDA was created in 2005 and have been enjoying relative peace until some cracks were noticed in the system which affected some of the efforts put in so far.

He said this lingered for about ten years until normalcy was returned.

The past chairman attributed the success recorded so far to Almighty God, ‘’Oluwoye CDA started in 2005 but crisis erupted five years after. The crises lingered for 10 years but thank God for our traditional ruler, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe Land, leaders and elders of the community who intervened and the crises were resolved.

‘’In the course of the struggle, some members lost their lives namely; Mr Tijani Kazeem, Alhaji Adebanjo Sabiu Ademola, Mrs Ramota Adebanjo, Alhaji Saka Mohamed, Mr Peter Edema and Prof Azubuike Anyaegbunam, we fought Oluwoye’s battle together but before success was recorded, they were no more. My vision is to get Oluwoye back on its feet so that I can rest and  thank God that He is on our side.

‘’Our CDA is not the first in Ibeshe, but it stands out among others.

Some of our achievement include installation of Industrial Close Circuit Television (CCTV) camera with vocal sound and full options as well as community fencing with gates. We have laid good foundation for the new officers to build on.’’

A minute silence was observed in honour of the departed souls.

Pastor Olanipekun handed over the Oath of Allegiance of the CDA and State CDC Constitution to the new officers who were thereafter  inaugurated by Mr Oduntan before the exercise was concluded by the H.O.D Agric.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman promised to lead the community peaceably and with the fear of God.

In his address titled, ‘’Orientation about CDA’’, Oduntan explained the concept behind creation of CDAs saying they were created by the State government to ensure development gets to the grassroots.  ‘’Community Development Association means people coming together to seek self help and embark on conventional projects for their communities.

‘’CDAs are partners, the fourth tier of the government and the only association that can embark on developmental projects in their communities,’’ he said.

According to him, Baales of various communities are patrons to CDAs, traditional rulers as grand patrons , home owners, residents and business owners in the communities as stakeholders.

Oduntan said officers of a CDA should fix convenient time for regular  meetings, and ensure transparency, accountability, compassion and availability among others as their watch word adding that  75 per cent of attendance at meetings is a must before a member can vote or be voted for,

In his Goodwill message, Alhaji Adesina Muktair, the Joint CDA Ibesheland Chairman, Dr Muktar Adeshina urged the new officers to be united in the pursuit of their goals.

Present at the Occasion were; the Olubeshe-in-Council, Baale-in-council, Chairmen from neiboughring CDAs, representatives of Otebolaku descendants and and IBLCDA CDC Zonal Chairmen
