CITIZENS COMPASS —Some Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, on Monday, March 4, 2024, applauded the Lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Mr Babajimi Benson, as the construction of 13-kilometre Offin-Oreta road in Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Area(LCDA) in the Division was flagged off.

The road construction was in response to the yearnings of residents whose access roads had been dilapidated for years.

Citizens Compass reports that the road construction was one of the numerous achievements of the lawmaker since he assumed office.

Roll call for the day included Members of the Governor Advisory Council (GAC) , party chieftains, and the Managing Director of the construction company among others.

Speaking at the occasion, a one-time Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Pa Reuben Olorunfunmi Basorun, recalled that the road was established about 38 years ago by the then Military administrator of Lagos State, Navy Capt. Mike Akhigbe.

He lauded the law make for reconstructing it after 38 years.

APC chieftain and former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lagos State, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, urged political office holders to emulate the lawmaker by bringing the dividends of democracy closer to the people.

“When we have opportunities to be elected or appointed to political positions, this is not an avenue to boost your ego because the position is not for free but for public service.

“When you acquire such a position, ask yourself what you will be remembered for. What Jimi Benson is doing is a demonstration of the mantra of his political group, ‘I Care’, which shows the Lawmaker loves and cares for his constituency. He knows where the shoes pinch his constituents.

“We have been to Baiyeku, Offin/Oreta, and several other places to campaign and people were not ready to listen to us because of dilapidated roads but Jimi Benson has proved to them that there is hope and he will continue to receive prayers from people. “

Mr Benson said the road construction was a promise fulfilled to make commuting on the road easier for the residents.

He urged the construction company to provide employment opportunities for residents through the project.

He also sought the cooperation of residents with the contractor to forestall the disruption of the project.

He said, “My primary concern to my constituency is about what the people want.

“I will speak to the contractor to carry along all the youths and elders in respect of employment.

“I implore the youths and the community leaders to support the contractor in ensuring timely completion of the project.

“Thank you for voting massively for our party during the 2023 elections,” he said.

Mr Sesan Daini, chairman, of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, said the road would boost the economy of the area considering its proximity to Lekki, Victoria Island, Banana Island, and aid the THEME agenda of Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State.

He said the road construction would increase the waterways transportation adding that 51 Community Development Associations (CDAs) would also benefit from the gesture.

“I appreciate our lawmaker for bringing a federal government presence to the community because it will bring a lot of benefits to the communities,” he said.

Also, Mr Adelakun Abayomi, chairman, of the Community Development Committee of the LCDA appreciated the lawmaker over the road construction and promised that the residents would retaliate the kind gesture by voting overwhelmingly for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the elections.

“The gesture we have been waiting for has become a reality, we will return our appreciation through our votes to the party.”
