Police uncover body of murdered DPO

CITIZENS COMPASS —The Rivers State Police Command has uncovered and retrieved the body of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim, in charge of Ahoada Police Division in the State. 

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Spokesman, Rivers State Police Comman, said this occurred six months after he was murdered by cultists. 

Recall that Angbashim, a Superintendent of Police, was brutally killed by a cult group on September 8, 2023, in Odiemude Community, Ahoada-East LGA of the State.

The Command said the main suspect in the murder of the DPO, Gift David Okpara, popularly known as 2Baba has met his untimely death. 

The spokesman said Angbashim’s grave was found near a shrine within 2Baba’s camp in Odiemude Community.

The remains of the late DPO have been transferred to the mortuary for scientific examination and genetic testing, as stated in the statement. 

The Command expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the investigation and emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice prevails.

“A coordinated joint operation by tactical squads from the Rivers State Police Command and personnel from the Force Intelligence Bureau led to the discovery of Angbashim’s burial site within 2Baba’s gang shrine during a search operation on March 10, 2024. 

“The recovered remains, including the deceased officer’s skull, are undergoing forensic analysis to confirm their identity.

Efforts are ongoing to locate and retrieve other parts of Angbashim’s body suspected to be buried at undisclosed locations within the forest. Notably, 2Baba, the gang leader responsible for the crime, was killed during a police operation on February 17, 2024, but his body was later found in a shallow grave in the Ebrass forest after an intensive search.

“The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, commended the joint security team for their unwavering dedication in the operation. He also appreciated the support of the community members throughout the investigation process and assured the public of the Police’s commitment to apprehending the remaining gang members.

“The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, security, and justice within the state, promising to provide regular updates on the investigation’s progress as it unfolds.”
