CITIZENS COMPASS— An 18-year-old defender, Chinedu Ozor, from Katsina United has reportedly resurrected in the mortuary after his death was announced.
Ozor was said to be declared dead and deposited at the morgue following his collapse during a pre-season match.
Confusion later surfaced when medical personnel later noticed signs of movement in the mortuary.
Ozor, who recently joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars, reportedly collapsed during Tuesday’s Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention but was subsequently pronounced dead.
The development prompted Katsina United to issue a condolence statement, while Kano Pillars, Heartland and other clubs associated with the young defender also expressed grief over his reported death.
However, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn after medical personnel at Katsina General Hospital noticed movement in Ozor’s body after it had been taken to the mortuary.
He was reportedly returned from the morgue and transferred to the intensive care unit, where he was placed on oxygen.
Katsina United media officer, Nasir Gide, confirmed that Ozor had initially been declared dead at two different medical facilities.
“When we rushed him to a nearby hospital, he was confirmed dead by a doctor. We collected the police report and took him back to Katsina General Hospital where he was also said to be dead. They took his body to the morgue there,” Gide said.
“Later, the medical personnel informed us that he had been taken back to the ICU from the morgue when they noticed movement in his body.”
Gide said the club was waiting for further information from the medical team and Ozor’s family.
“We heard that he is still alive, but we are awaiting an expert report from the doctors,” he added.
Before the latest development, Katsina United had announced Ozor’s death, describing his collapse as a medical emergency during the friendly.
Kano Pillars and other clubs subsequently sent condolence messages following the announcement.
Heartland, where Ozor had also played, later reported the change in his condition on X.
“Reliable sources say Chinedu Ozor has been moved from the mortuary to the hospital after reportedly showing signs of movement. He is currently on oxygen as medics work to revive him,” the club stated.
“Ozor, we believe in the God of second chance. May God restore.”
