CITIZENS COMPASS— As Muslims around the globe mark the Eid-el-Adha holidays to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to the dictates of Allah, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI has urged Lagos residents to adopt environmentally-responsible acts via proper waste disposal, engaging in all-inclusive environmental sanitation during and after the Sallah holidays.

This was disclosed by the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatubosun Cole (Rtd) in a statement made available to newsmen at the Command Headquarters situated at Bolade-Oshodi. According to him, “the Sallah holidays are very significant to the Muslim world, being that the sacrificial act of slaughtering rams commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah thousands of years ago. While Lagos residents and particularly Muslim faithfuls celebrate in Lagos, we keep advocating for the promotion of proper waste disposal, patronage of PSP operators, and adoption of environmentally-appealing choices”.
Cole also revealed how operatives of the Agency will remain at their operational beats to continually monitor for environmental infractions, effect arrests of environmental defaulters, and sensitize relevant stakeholders on the need for increased voluntary compliance with the State’s environmental laws.
The retired Major also read the riot act to Lagos residents to desist from displaying wares for sale on setbacks, lay-bys, kerbs, road verges, medians, gutter slabs, citing how street trading impedes vehicular and pedestrian movement on our roads.

He finally highlighted the need for transiting Lagos commuters to remain safety-compliant by accessing strategically-erected pedestrian bridges instead of crossing highways which results in ‘hit and run’ cases by speeding motorists, thereby causing grievous bodily harm or death in some cases.
