CITIZENS COMPASS— The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, on Monday, addressed his supporters to remain calm even as the Federal High Court, Abuja, has ordered his immediate remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

Sowore will remain in custody until Wednesday, June 24, 2026, when legal proceedings are scheduled to resume.

Sowore was charged for a two-count cybercrime charge filed by the Department of State Services (DSS), which accuses Sowore of cyberstalking and criminal defamation after he labeled President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” in an August 2025 social media post.

In August 2025, Sowore posted on X and Facebook, calling President Tinubu a “criminal” over statements made during a trip to Brazil.

All entreaties by DSS to delete the posts were unsuccessful.

In May 2026, Justice Mohammed Umar rejected Sowore’s application to drop the charges. The judge ruled that the DSS established a prima facie case, legally requiring Sowore to open his defense.

Earlier on June 5, following a judicial directive for daily trial hearings, Sowore’s legal team withdrew from the case.

Citing the “humiliation” his lawyers faced, Sowore opts to represent himself and files a motion accusing the judge of bias.

Meanwhile, on June 16, 2026, after Sowore failed to appear for a scheduled defense continuation, the prosecution labelled it a “delay tactic”.

Justice Umar revokes his self-recognition bail and issues a bench warrant for his arrest.

On Monday, Justice Umar officially dismissed Sowore’s motion seeking his disqualification over alleged bias.

Following the arrest order, the court orders Sowore to be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre.

Addressing his supporters, Sowore posted on his X Handle this: Justice M.G. Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that I be remanded in Kuje Prison for my one absence from court since the bogus case began, even though I was away consulting with my new legal team led by Olumide-Fusika, SAN.

Mr. Olumide-Fusika duly informed the court that my absence was solely for consultations with him, yet the judge proceeded to order my remand regardless.

I need hardly say that I am the least bothered by this development.

Imprisonment has never defeated a just cause, and it never will.

I urge the Nigerian people and all our comrades to remain resolute, steadfast, and unyielding in the quest for a genuine revolution that will liberate our country from oppression, injustice, and misrule.

The struggle continues. Victory is certain.
