Three die as Okada riders ply ‘One Way’ in Lagos 

… 98% of crashes avoidable —FRSC 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS —Three persons have been confirmed dead in Lagos State when two motorcycles rode against traffic and collided with a Mack Flat body truck at Dantata Bus-Stop along Alakija-Okoko expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Command, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 when it cautioned motorists and commuters on dangers of unlawful road usage as the ember months wind down.

A statement signed by the Public Education Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, and made available to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), quoted an eye witness as saying the accident happened when the bikes, “which rode against traffic (one way)  ran into by a Blue Mack Flat body truck which was trying to maneuver its way from the ‘area boys’ (agberos) trying to stop it.”

The statement noted that the vehicles, which had a military personnel and his wife, who died on the spot including the bike rider, were without registration numbers.

While the bodies of the military personnel and his wife were deposited at Ojo Cantonment Medical Rescue Centre the bike rider was taken to Badagry General Hospital Mortuary by FRSC team.

Speaking on the sad incident, the Sector Commander FRSC Lagos, Corps Commander Babatunde Farinloye admonished motorists and other road users to shun every act that poses danger to them and other road users.

According to him, 98% of crashes are totally avoidable because they happen as a result of human error. He reiterated that driving against traffic is not just an offence against traffic rules, but also suicidal and a display of man’s inhumanity of man.

He however, emphasized the commitment of the Corps to creating a safer motoring environment and service delivery system during the festive season.
