Transport union strategises on Governorship election in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS– THE National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has resrategised towards the upcoming Governorship election in Lagos State.

This is to ensure the victory of its preferred candidate.

One of the strategies by NURTW is to ensure that members come out enmass to cast their votes for the preferred candidate come Saturday, March 11, 2023.

To that effect, it was gathered that members of Lagos chapter of NURTW have been asked to submit their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for unspecified.

As at Friday, March 3, 2023, checks by our Correspondent revealed that a number of union members in the state had complied with the directive by submitting their PVCs to the union’s secretariat.

A member of NURTW in Lagos who pleaded anonymity said the transport union held meeting on Thursday, March 1, 2023 though the outcome is yet to be disclosed.

“They concluded this morning that all NURTW members should submit their PVCs to the branch secretary or the unit secretary.

“I’ve turned in mine. They arrived at 10 am this morning to collect it. But why are they robbing us of our PVCs?

“I have no idea when they will return it to us. They are denying us the opportunity to be with our PVCs on election day because they want to use it for something else.”

When our Corresondent contacted the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW via its phone number on Google, a representative said he was not aware of the development.

“I don’t know anything about it. I don’t understand what you are saying,” he said.
