Truck driver dies along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

.. Lagos records four accidents in One day

CITIZENS COMPASS – A yet-to-be identified truck driver on Thursday, reportedly lost his life to an accident that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident was said to have involved a truck with number plate, LSR-69YE and another truck with number plate, GWN-597XA, laden with 30,000 litres petroleum product. 

Both were travelling outwsrd Lagos State. 

It occurred in the morning, around a popular gas station, outward Lagos. 

It was gathered that the truck lost control whilst on motion and rammed into the latter truck from the rear. 

The driver was said to have died on the spot.

According to the Permanent Secretary in his updates, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu who confirmed the accident to Citizenscompass, “On arrival at the incident scene, it was discovered that a Truck with registration no. LSR-69YE and a Tanker fully laden with PMS (30000 litres) with registration no. GWN-597XA was involved in a road accident.

” Investigation conducted by the LRT revealed that the Truck driver lost control and ran into the Tanker from behind whilst on motion.

” Unfortunately, the Truck driver lost his life to the incident.

“The Agency’s LRT, FRSC and Nigeria police are on ground to ensure safety measures as the trapped victim has been extricated with the aid of the Agency’s light tow-truck and has also been body bagged by the LRT.

” The Agency’s LRT has handed over the Body to Nigeria police on the scene.” 

As at 9.15a.m, he said the operation had been concluded, “Operation concluded.

Agency’s LRT alongside light low-trucks heading back to base.” 

In a related development, the Permanent Secretary also confirmed a lone accident at Osolo way, inward Ajao Estate, Isolo area of the state. 

In his updates, he said, “Upon arrival of the LASEMA response team at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that an IVECO tanker with registration number MAG 926XA fully loaded with 40,000 litres of Premium  Motor Spirit (PMS) was involved in a lone accident . 

” Information gathered revealed that the cause of the incident was due to mechanical fault (brake failure) while at speed before suddenly crashing into the road side drainages and getting stuck resulting in the blockage of the entire road. 

” No loss of life nor injuries sustained to the motor boy neither the driver of the tanker. 

” The owner of the tanker had been contacted immediately and has arranged for an empty tanker for Transloading of the product, to ease the recovery process. 

“Heavy duty equipment has been dispatched to the scene to move the tanker once the trans loading is completed. 

” The LASEMA response team alongside the Lagos state fire and rescue service and LASTMA rescue team are on ground managing the situation while all the vehicles have been successfully diverted.” 

Similarly, the third truck accident for the day, in Lagos, occurred at Alaba Suru inward Mile 2.

This was also confirmed by Osanyinyolu who gave an update about the accident, 

” On arrival of LASEMA Response Team (LRT), at the scene of incident, a fully loaded gas tanker with an unknown number plate was found to have involved in a lone accident at the above-mentioned location and was assessed to be about to fall off the bridge. 

“The entire corridor has been cordoned off by LRT in other to prevent a secondary incident.

” The Agency’s heavy duty equipment ( crane ) has been dispatched  to recover the impediment off the road.

“LRT, LASG Fire & rescue service and NPF are responders present at the scene.

” No loss of life or injury recorded.

Motorists plying that axis and those with the intent of traversing that area are implored to be patient and use alternative routes as directed by Emergency Responders, as traffic has been diverted during this recovery period.

“Kindly bear with us while the operation lasts.” 

The fourth truck accident occurred at Okeriya area of Ikorodu when a containerised truck fell on a car crushing it beyond repair. 

The incident occurred in the early hours of the day. 

It could not be ascertained if there were casualties.
