Viral video: Lagos orphan gets accommodation 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS –The 12-year-old orphan who was abused by a woman in Lagos, has got accommodation from the state government.

Recall that a video went viral capturing the girl openly taking her bath while a woman armed with a rod was shouting at her.

Citizens Compass reported that the 32-year-old Funmi Faith was later arrested by the Police at the Oke-Odo Division.

The Director, Public Affairs, Olabisi Adeola, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in a statement, disclosed that the girl had been offered accommodation.

Citizens Compass reported that on, June 5, 2024, Spokesman, Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyi, disclosed the arrest on his X Handle.

He said Funmi was arrested for mistreating the girl.

Adeola quoted the commissioner Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Developmen, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, saying the ministry would take proper care of the teenager.

She said the Commissioner also expressed the ministry’s commitment to protecting children from abuse and ensuring their rights are upheld assuming members of the public that the ministry would collaborate with relevant agencies to eliminate all forms of abuse in Lagos State.

The statement urged the public to assist the state government by reporting any abuse cases to the ministry through the helpline: 0906-735-3002 or by visiting the Ministry of Youth and Social Development at Block 18, Alausa Secretariat. He guaranteed confidentiality for all whistleblowers,” the statement added.

A neighbour who witnessed the brutality, raised the alarm and captured the moment in a video which went viral and attracted public attention.

The neighbour cautioned Funmi and threatened to send the video viral but Funmi funed and responded thus, ‘’If you don’t show it, you are a bastard…”

The video has generated reactions from social media users which reads, ”

“The temerity of this woman is purely demonic,and she should face the wrath of the law. I thank God that people are beginning to imbibe the spirit of being our brother’s keepers,and standing up for the vulnerable in society. God bless that man that recorded the incident and posted online. This is the good aspect of social media,and what it should be as a vehicle for social change.

“I wept on another platform when I watched it yesterday, and asked my friends in Lagos to take it up. Her arrest just made my day. We must all be part of the desired change we need in this country. This is pure “See something Say Something .”
