Wife of Council Chairman distributes cash, food items to widows, aged

CITIZENS COMPASS— The wife of Ikorodu Local Government in Lagos State, Chairman, Mrs Kadijat Ladega, yesterday, distributed cash and food items to the aged and widows in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The event was held at the council secretariat.
The Citizens Compass reports that the food palliative consists of rice, beans and garri while N5,000 cash support was also added to each beneficiary.
Speaking, he said, “My husband has been doing a lot to support the widows and the aged, not only th but women entirely.
“I have assured them that they should keep calm, what is not enough is going to be more enough subsequently.
“We cannot do everything, but we are going to try our best,” she said.
In her remarks, Mrs Mary Enigbokun, Coordinator, National Council of Women Society (NCWS) urged the wife of the chairman to prioritise health of the widows and aged women and support them to subsidise transport during the women’s conference.
Enigbokun also charged the chairperson to create employment opportunities for the youths.
Similarly, Mrs Habibat Argungu, representing the Northern women called on the wife of the chairman to always carry them along on all of their programmes and advised other women not to sell the food palliative given to them.
In her response, Mrs Ladega said that all their demands would be looked into and promised to personally conduct an upward review on some of the benefits meant to the widows in Ikorodu.
She charged them to ensure they all registered and have their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to vote for All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2027 and election and vote for President Bola Tinubu second term.
“At least 70 per cent of their requests will be done and granted for effective measure and use for them to be able to feel relaxed and live long.
“Somebody spoke about the word transformer, we are going to look into it and I will make sure they get a transformer.
“As regards health, we will ensure periodic medical check ups, those on operation should bring their papers so that we can intervene,” she said.
She promised to ensure prompt meetings with women especially widows to make them feel at home despite their husband is no more.
In his remarks, Mr Adedayo Ladega, promised to give back to them as promised during his campaign manifestoes and urged them to support his administration in taking Ikorodu LG to the next level.
“I urged the women to keep calm and believe in us because we are going to prioritise their welfare,” he said.
