11 passengers perish during night voyage in Ogun

CITIZENS COMPASS— The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) on Sunday, confirmed a fatal accident which claimed the lives of 11 passengers in the State.

The Superintendent Route Commander, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Odunsi Afolabi, confirmed this in his updates.

The spokesperson said the accident occurred at about 7.30p.m. at Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos route,

According to him: The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi , sadly informs the public of the tragic incident of a fatal lone accident at Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos route, which occurred earlier tonight, May 10, 2026.

The FRSC rescue team from Itori Unit Command were deployed immediately.

All 11 people on board (10 adult males and 1 adult female) lost their lives in the crash.

The Incident: A gold Toyota with registration GGE722KJ somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping the occupants inside as the doors locked upon impact.

FRSC personnel, with help from the local community, dismantled the vehicle to recover the bodies. The deceased have been moved to the State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.

The preliminary report cites Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Overloading (OVL) as the probable causes.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi advised travelers on the ABK/LAG route to exercise extreme caution, especially when driving at night.

He however expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
