13 dead, 12 injured on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

13 PEOPLE were dead, while 12 others were injured, on Wednesday, in autocrash involving a truck and Mazda bus at the Ogun State axis, along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway.

The incident reportedly occured outbound Lagos, opposite Wichtech, Ogun State axis, at about 4pm.

The unidentified Vilvo Truck was said to be laden with waste disposal while the Mazda Bus with number plate APP 28 YE was conveying 25 occupants when the incident occured.

Those injured were four males, five females and four minors while the fatalities were four minors, four males and five females.

It was gathered that emergency responders arrived the scene at about 4.30pm and rescued the victims to a private hospital and morgue while the accidented vehicles were towed to Sagamu/Police Division.

This was done by men of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Ogun State Traffic Enforcement and Compliance Corps (TRACE) who also cleared the traffic gridlock occasioned by the accident.

It was learnt that the commercial bus was traveling from Lagos, when it wrongly overtook another vehicle before ramming into the stationary truck by the road side killing nine occupants on the spot while four others
died at Idera Hospital where they were rescued to.

Those injured were said to be responding to treatment.

TRACE Spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the development urged motorists to desist from parking or repairing vehicles by the road side saying, “TRACE will continue to insist that the road or toad side is not a mechanic workshop where cars should be parked or repaired for whatever fault because of its attendant consequences.

“However, TRACE Corps commiserate with the family of the deceased victims.”
