21 killed during 2023 elections

CITIZENS COMPASS– NO fewer than 21 persons have lost their lives to election violence which occurred across Nigeria during the 2023 presidential, gubernatorial and state assembly elections.

This was disclosed by the European Union even as collation of results is ongoing and announcement of results were suspended in some parts of the country.

The EU Chief Observer, Mister Barry Andrews, disclosed this on Monday, March 20, 2023, while briefing journalists on their findings in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Barry stated that there was massive voter apathy, mainly because voters’ expectations during the presidential election were not met.

The EU Observer also explained that there were records of vote buying in several parts of the country.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for an improvement in its logistics arrangements, adding that the electoral body did better in the conduct of the polls through the deployment and usage of technology.

Recall that the 2023 general elections were married with violence as some suspected thugs were involved in what could be described as a reign of terror across the country.

Worst states are Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Delta and some other parts of the country.

In Lagos, areas like Victoria Garden City (VGC), Iba, Ago, Oshodi, Apapa, Abule-Ado and Ojo to mention but a few.

A Ward chairman of Labour Party was reportedly picked up by security operatives.

The Lagos violence saw some political thugs and ballot box snatchers sustaining injuries following resistance by some residents.
