Driver, passenger unconscious as jeep, bus collide in Lagos 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS– The driver of a mini bus popularly known as Korope and passenger were on Thursday, left unconscious when a jeep collided with the bus in Lagos State.

The resulting impact of the collision left the mini-bus extensively damaged.

The collision occurred at day time around Ikota School, inward Ajah, along the Lekki-Ajah corridor.

The driver was said to have fallen into a coma after sustaining a severe fracture on his right arm, while a passenger aboard the vehicle sustained intense nasal hemorrhaging and became unconscious at the scene.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofik, confirmed the collision.

In his updates, he said, “The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) wishes to report a serious road traffic incident that occurred earlier today in the vicinity of Ikota School, inward Ajah, along the ever-busy Lekki-Ajah corridor.

“The accident involved a white Ford Jeep (registration number: KWL 574 CY) and a fully occupied commercial mini-bus (plate number: FST 207 YK).

“Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the Ford Jeep, while allegedly traveling at a dangerously high speed, lost control of the vehicle and violently rammed into the moving commercial mini-bus.

“The resulting impact left the mini-bus extensively damaged. Regrettably, the bus driver slipped into a coma after suffering a severe fracture to his right arm, while a passenger aboard the vehicle sustained intense nasal hemorrhaging and was rendered unconscious at the scene.

“LASTMA Officers responded with commendable urgency, swiftly coordinating the evacuation of the victims to a nearby medical facility while securing the crash site to prevent further disruption to vehicular movement. Their efforts were ably supported by personnel from the Ajiwe Divisional Police Headquarters, who provided critical security reinforcement throughout the operation.

“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki while reacting to underscored the grave dangers of reckless driving.

“Excessive speed remains a foremost contributor to fatal road incidents. Motorists are strongly advised to exercise prudence and prioritize life over haste,” he emphasized.

“Mr. Bakare-Oki extended his sincere wishes for the swift recovery of the injured victims and reaffirmed the Agency’s steadfast dedication to safeguarding lives through proactive traffic management and public safety advocacy.”
