Police mom as hoodlums stab trader to death over N1,500 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS– Three days after some hoodlums reportedly stabbed a female trader to death in Ifo market, Ogun State, the State Police Command is yet to react to the incident.

The mother of two simply identified as Mrs Blessing Eze was stabbed to death on Eid-El-Kabir day over N1,500 levy.

It eyewitnesses’ accounts said that the hoodlums were moving from shop to shop, stall to stalls taxing each trader to the tune of N1,500 for the Sallah celebration.

Citizens Compass learnt that on getting to the deceased, she was arranging her goods when the hoodlums arrived and she told them to come back as she didn’t have up to the amount they requested for.

Eyewitnesses’ accounts said her response did not go down well with the hoodlums as one of them reached for her goods and started scattering them.

The deceased was said to have grabbed the hoodlum insisting that he must rearrange the stock.

Citizens Compass reports that his later led to an altercation and the hoodlum gained upper hands by stabbing the woman who was left in the pool of her own blood.

On noticing this, some fans of the woman began a chase of the hoodlums and tension erupted in the area.

In solidarity, Igbo traders in the market shut down their businesses to mourn the demise of one of them.

The Igbo traders as gathered also declared four days of mourning to draw the government attention to their plight.

According to them, the period is in protest of incessant attacks on their businesses by hoodlums.

In a telephone conversation, one of the traders, Amadi Enudeme said their members have suffered constant attacks by hoodlums. “This is one death too many. Mrs Eze was stabbed to death because of N1,500. We call on the Police and other relevant authorities to come to our aid.” He said.

Three days after the incident, the Lagos State Police Command was mom.
