Lagos council faces out streets with Igbo names

CITIZENS COMPASS—Six streets bearing Igbo names in the Eti-Osa Local Government, Lagos State have been renamed after Yoruba residents.

The council made the announcement in a public notice, on Friday according to the Council Manager, Mrs. Oluwakemi Oshun, who said it was part of the local government’s ongoing street naming and re-validation exercise.

According to the notice, the affected streets have been officially revoked and renamed, with immediate effect. Residents, businesses, and members of the public have been advised to take note of the changes for official documentation, postal purposes, and proper location referencing.

Tony Amadasun Road in Igbo Efon is now Chief Femi Pedro Road

Dr. Udo Wogu Drive in Chevy View is now Chief Adebola Dosunmu Drive

Augusta Orji Street along Aro Ologolo Road is now Alhaji Adio Mayegun Street

Chike Mba Close in Osapa London is now Hon. Sikiru Ashorota Close

Ugochukwu Orji Street in Igbo Efon is now Barr. Wale Sanni Street

Fubara Dublin Green Street in Igbo Efon is now Rafiu Olukolu Street.

The development comes barely a week after the viral renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop in Lagos to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop. A decision that created mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the cultural and symbolic implications of such changes.

The local government reiterated that the ongoing naming exercise is aimed at enhancing the cultural and historical relevance of street names while promoting accurate navigation and identity management within the council area.
