Lagos councillor dies two weeks after swearing-in 

 

CITIZENS COMPASS—Tragedy struck in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, following the death of Oluwakemi Rufai, a councillor representing Ward C1.

The death occurred barely two weeks after her swearing in.

Rufai, the only female councillor in the area reportedly passed on after a brief illness.

The death was confirmed to newsmen by the chairmen of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Sesan Olowa, and his Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaki Kasali, on Wednesday.

In separate statements, both council chairmen expressed shock over the new female councillor’s death, describing it as a rude shock to them.

Both chairmen disclosed that Rabiu was pronounced dead by medical experts on Tuesday.

Citizens Compass reports that the late counselor contested for the position under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Olowa: “With a heavy heart, but with complete submission to the will of Allah, who gives and takes life, we mourn the passing of Alhaja Oluwakemi Rufai.

“May Allah accept her return, forgive her shortcomings, and grant her Al-Jannatul Firdaus. Our heartfelt condolences go to her immediate family and loved ones. May Almighty Allah protect us from further untimely deaths, Amin”.

Kasali added: “Alhaja Oluwakemi Rufai, the Councillor representing Ward C1 of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, was a kind woman, who served her people and her party to the best of her ability. Her loss is a painful one, not only to her family and the people of Ward C1, but also to all of us in Ibeju Lekki and Lekki LCDA.

“On behalf of the good people of Lekki LCDA, I extend my heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. We pray that Almighty Allah grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus and give her loved ones the strength to bear this great loss”
