103-year-old woman dies in Lagos fire
CITIZENS COMPASS— A 103-year-old woman was on Friday, suffocated to death in a fire outbreak which gutted a building on Bola Street, by Kadara Street, Oyingbo area of Lagos State.
The inferno which was noticed at about Noon destroyed property whose monetary value could not be quantified.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the inferno in a statement which reads: Following distress alerts received on its 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency Lines at 1143hours, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from its Onipanu Base, Onipanu.
Upon arrival of LRT at the incident scene by 1213hours, it was observed that a residential bungalow with two shops attached to it was engulfed by fire at the aforementioned location.
The fire reportedly started from a room before spreading to other rooms within the building. However, the cause of the fire was yet-to-be ascertained as at the time of writing this report.
The Lagos Response Team (LRT) on arrival conducted a risk assessment of the incident scene and cordoned-off the activity area.
Necessary safety and precautionary measures were implemented to forestall damages to adjoining buildings and immediate environs of the incident scene.
Prompt action with adequate interventions were implemented upon arrival of the LRT, alongside LASEMA Fire Unit and other responders, to put out the fire.
Agency’s Response Team co-ordinated the collaborative efforts of all responders present to ensure a quick and safe operation.
Concerted efforts made to curtail the inferno eventually subdued it.
Unfortunately, one life, a 103 year old centurion (name withheld), lost her life to the incident.
The fire incident affected eight units of room and palour, a unit of a room mini flat (self-contained), six shops, household properties worth a fortune.
The recovered commodity has been handed over to the family for necessary action.
The fire has been completely extinguished.
The Agency’s LRT and LASEMA Fire Unit in collaboration with other responders, successfully curtailed and contained the fire.
Dampening down has been concluded.
Rescue and Recovery Operation has been concluded.
