CITIZENS COMPASS—No fewer than nine soldiers and a police officer were reportedly killed yesterday, when suspected gunmen ambushed them in Kebbi State.
The incident occurred at Giro Masa community in Shanga Local Government Area of the State.
Reports said many civilians also fell victims of the attack.
Kebbi State Governor, Mohammed Nasir Idris confirmed the incident on Wednesday after visiting some victims of the attack at the federal teaching hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
The attack occurred at night as two gun trucks were reportedly set ablaze.
According to the Governor, “This is a sad incident. These are the soldiers who protect the lives of Kebbi residents, yet they found themselves in this situation. The Kebbi State Government will not relent in its efforts to protect the lives of its citizens,” he said.
Idris prayed for the deceased and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the state, as he proceeded to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
