CITIZENS COMPASS— A former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday, resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
Kwankwaso was the presidential candidate of the party in 2023.
He disclosed this in a press statement dated March 29, 2026.
According to him, the decision followed the need for a strategic political realignment amid the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape.
Kwankaso expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve as its national leader and presidential candidate during the 2023 general elections, describing the decision to leave the party as a difficult one.
He said the current trajectory of the nation’s politics necessitated identifying with another political platform that offers a better opportunity to effectively pursue national change.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” the statement read.
