CITIZENS COMPASS— The Association of Practitioners of Community Media in Nigeria (APCOM) has felicitated with veteran community media practitioner and publisher of Ikorodu News, Prince Ganny Dosumu Awobajo, on the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary.
In a tribute signed by the President of APCOM, Mr. Abayomi Adejumo, the association described Prince Awobajo, fondly known as “Baba Ikorodu,” as one of the foremost pioneers of community newspapers in Nigeria whose contributions to grassroots journalism remain remarkable and enduring.
According to the statement, Prince Awobajo’s visionary leadership and commitment to community journalism played a significant role in the growth and development of community media practice in Nigeria.
APCOM also praised the celebrant’s exemplary character, describing him as humble, disciplined, progressive, and deeply committed to the ideals of the association.
“Baba Ikorodu has always demonstrated uncommon dedication to APCOM. He was never late to meetings, and whenever he could not attend, he always communicated sincere reasons for his absence. His integrity, responsibility, and respect for collective engagement are virtues worthy of emulation,” the statement noted.
The association further acknowledged his unwavering passion for community development, truthful journalism, and the empowerment of local voices, adding that his contributions have continued to inspire younger practitioners within the media profession.
As Prince Ganny Dosumu Awobajo marks the milestone age of 80, APCOM joined family members, friends, associates, and the media community in thanking God for his impactful life, sound health, and enduring legacy.
The association prayed for continued good health, peace, strength, and many more fruitful years for the elder statesman in service to humanity and the media profession.
