CITIZENS COMPASS—Membees of Iru Ekun, a security company belonging to the Yoruba Nation’s agitator, Oloye Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, have been attacked at the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State.

Members of this security team were attacked during an operation in the area.

Igboho and his team were said to have stormed the forest in search of the abducted students and teachers of Ogbomosho schools in the Orire Local Government area of the State.

However, they were ambushed and attacked by some militia.

Many members of the security team were said to have sustained bullet wounds.

How it happened

Narrating how it happened, an aide to Sunday Igboho on Friday, took to social media to narrate the incident saying members of the team were on their way from Igbeti to the Reserve area when they were ambushed.

According to him, “We saw two young boys between ages 19 and 24.

“On sighting us, both escaped into the forest and we parked our vehicles to inquire why they took to their heels due to the sensitive nature of the area.

“Unfortunately, they reigned bullets in us and some of us were injured, particularly the first person that ran after them as six cartridges penetrated him. However, the team demonstrated bravery and First aid treatment was applied on the victims.”

Sources familiar with the operation said the team deployed surveillance drones to identify suspected criminal hideouts and monitor the movements of armed groups before advancing into the area.

However, the mission reportedly turned violent when the operatives allegedly came under attack from heavily armed men believed to be members of cross-border criminal networks.

At press time, there was no official statement from government authorities.
