CITIZENS COMPASS— The Council Chairman of Oto-Awori Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, on Wednesday, marked his one year in office with the commissioning of 456 meters of Kareem Road, Shibiri, and the commissioning of a storey building comprising 12 classrooms at Community Nursery and Primary School, Ilemba-Awori.
Oto-Awori LCDA is along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.
Still in the ambit of the one-year celebration, Abiodun presented grants to the Community Development Areas (CDAs) across all wards to support grassroots micro-projects.
To strengthen security and response time across Oto-Awori, the Council Chairman handed over new operational vehicles to the Oto-Awori Police Division, the Joint Task Force, and the CDC LCDA.
It didn’t end there; Oto-Awori LCDA flagged off a Free Health Mission to provide check-ups, treatment, and drugs to residents free of charge while presenting empowerment items and grants to youths, women artisans and vulnerable groups across the LCDA.
Delivering the projects to the good people of Oto-Awori, Abiodun said they were part of his promises to run a government that is open, accountable, and people-centered.
The fun-parked event was graced by who’s and who’s within the LCDA and Lagos State at large.
In his address, Abiodun said that in the last 12 months, Oto-Awori LCDA has touched every sector that matters to his people, saying that his administration, within one year, constructed roads, drainages, and facilitated other urban development projects to connect people to opportunity.
According to him, the completed road projects include: 80 meters Mosholashi-Baale Road with drainage in Shibiri, 362 meters reconstruction of Ese-Ofin Jetty and Road, opening riverine access for coastal communities, and 538 metres Jesuwame-Igbonla Road with drainage and grading works on Elesho Estate Road, Oke Agbo Road, and Cele Road, among others.
He said: On 15th May, 2026, we rehabilitated a section of Babalola Road with interlocking stones and drainage. On 6th April, 2026, we commenced construction of Kareem Street — 456 meters with drainage.
From Badagry Expressway to Ashiribo Bus Stop, bad portions are being patched.
Other achievements of Abiodun were the commissioning of an ultra-modern legislative building, renovation of a 12-classroom block with offices, toilets and a store at Community Nursery and Primary School, Ilemba-Awori, and construction of a modern public toilet at Shibiri Area Office for traders and residents.
Recall that Abiodun, alongside other council chairmen in Lagos, was elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Council Election of July 12, 2025.
He thanked the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Olusola Sanwo-Olu, for giving him the privilege to serve his people.
He said: From roads to classrooms. From light to livelihood. From security to dignity. This is not just governance. This is service with sincerity. This is Oto-Awori LCDA rising.
Also speaking, the Council Manager of Oto-Awori LCDA, Mrs Whenu Olamide, appreciated the good people of Awori and the entire community for their cooperation, patience, and peaceful support during the execution of this important project.
According to her, our heartfelt gratitude goes to our community leaders, Baales, Chiefs, and Youth Leaders for their guidance, understanding, and valuable contributions.
We equally appreciate the Executive Chairman of Awori LCDA and all council staff for their commitment and support.
We extend our appreciation to His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, for his efforts toward good governance and development, as well as His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Finally, we thank everyone who contributed in one way or another to this project.
