CITIZENS COMPASS— Four people were dead on Wednesday, in a road traffic crash that occurred along the Ibadan–Lagos route at Straight Gate, Ogun State axis.
The tragic incident occurred at about 0400hrs as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command which said eight persons were involved in the autocrash.
Spokesperson for the Command, Chief Route Commander, Afolabi Odunsi, in his updates said the crash involved a Mitsubishi Cabstar, colour blue with a number plate, FGE 753 XA.
and a HOWO Truck, colour ash with a number plate, T-695 KT.
According to him: A total of eight persons were involved in the crash. Four persons, all male adults, were killed, while one male adult sustained injuries and three (3) persons were unhurt.Two vehicles were involved in the crash:
Mitsubishi Cabstar, blue in colour, registration number FGE 753 XA.
HOWO Truck, ash in colour, registration number T-695 KT.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the crash was caused by speed violation (SPV) and wrong overtaking (WOV). The Mitsubishi driver, reportedly travelling at high speed, rammed into the moving truck while attempting to overtake. Fatigue was also identified as a contributing factor, as the driver was reportedly fatigued during the journey.
The FRSC rescue team received the report at 0433hrs and arrived at the scene at 0439hrs, recording a six-minutes response time.
The injured victim was rescued and taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Mortuary, Ipara.
The crashed vehicles were handed over to the Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Isara Division, for further investigation and necessary action.
The Sector Commander Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi therefore urges motorists to avoid speeding, fatigue and unsafe overtaking, especially during early-morning journeys. Drivers are advised to take adequate rest before embarking on long-distance trips and to overtake only when it is safe and permissible to do so.
