CITIZENS COMPASS— The State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) in Borno and Cross River states have lauded Airtel Nigeria for its interventions under the Airtel Africa Foundation’s School Adoption Programme, with both bodies recognising the significant impact of the ongoing projects on learning environments and access to digital education.
Speaking recently at the unveiling of the upgraded classroom blocks and an ICT laboratory at Gwange III Primary School, Maiduguri, Dr. Bulama Kagu, Executive Chairman, Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), commended Airtel for responding to the needs of the school through the renovation of classrooms and provision of furniture, WASH facilities, and digital learning facilities.
“We are pleased that Airtel has seen the need to carry out its social responsibility through the renovated classrooms and by providing network tools, seating materials and digital support. This is our expectation from a big telco network like this. Airtel, we cannot thank you enough,” he said.
Kagu also called for similar interventions in other schools, while urging the school management to ensure the facilities and ICT tools are appropriately maintained. He added that SUBEB would deploy coordinators to monitor the facilities and ensure they continue to serve their intended purpose.
The Head Teacher of Gwange III Primary School, Hajiya Fatimatu Ladan, also expressed appreciation on behalf of the management, staff, parents, community and pupils, describing the intervention as a significant milestone for the school.
She noted that the renovated classrooms, improved toilets, furniture, tree-planting and gardening initiatives, and the establishment of an ICT Centre as a Digital Community have created a safer, more comfortable and technology-enabled learning environment for pupils and teachers.
In Cross River State, Fidelia Opko Ene, Executive Chairman, Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (CRSUBEB), in an appreciation letter, similarly applauded Airtel Nigeria and the Airtel Africa Foundation on the successful completion of similar projects at Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, describing the organisation’s work as a significant contribution to improving teaching and learning.
“On behalf of the Government of Cross River State, CRSUBEB, and the entire school community, we sincerely appreciate Airtel Nigeria and the Airtel Africa Foundation for this impactful intervention at Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba. The renovation of the classrooms, construction and equipping of the ICT laboratory, provision of digital learning tools, furniture, solar power and other essential facilities will significantly enhance teaching and learning. We commend Airtel for its commitment to education and assure the company of our commitment to the proper maintenance and effective utilisation of these facilities for the long-term benefit of our pupils and teachers,” she said.
Now in its 15th year, the Airtel School Adoption Programme now includes 10 schools across Nigeria, with interventions covering upgrade and maintenance of learning facilities, provision of furniture and learning aids such as interactive screens, water and WASH facilities, and establishment of ICT laboratories
