AAC condemns Sowore’s re-arrest

CITIZENS COMPASS—The African Action Congress (AAC), Abuja State Chapter, has condemned the re-arrest of its former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, describing this as a violation of his fundamental human rights.

AAC Abuja in a statement signed over the weekend by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Larry, said:

The African Action Congress (AAC), Abuja State Chapter, strongly condemns the unjust and provocative re-arrest of our National Chairman, Comrade Omoyele Sowore, at the court premises shortly after he was granted bail. This brazen act is not only a violation of his fundamental human rights but a direct assault on the rule of law and the sanctity of our judicial system.

It is deeply troubling that in a democracy, security operatives would defy court orders and resort to intimidation and harassment of a citizen who has committed no crime other than speaking truth to power. Comrade Sowore represents the voice of millions of Nigerians yearning for justice, equity, and a better future. His continued persecution is a reflection of the shrinking civic space and the growing intolerance for dissent in our country.

We call on all well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organizations, and the international community to speak out against this injustice. Silence is complicity. The AAC remains resolute in its commitment to building a just and democratic society. We will not be cowed. We will not be silenced.

We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Comrade Omoyele Sowore and an end to the targeted harassment of activists and opposition voices.
