The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA has launched a registration portal for bursary application for indigent students of the Lagos East District who are studying in Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions.

While inaugurating the Tokunbo Abiru Bursary Advisory Board on Friday, 30th April, 2021 at his senatorial office in Ikorodu, he urged the board members who are mostly lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions to give priority to academic excellence amongst other criteria in the selection process of suitable beneficiaries.

He said the registration and screening of applications would be essentially driven online stressing the need to reduce human contact for greater efficiency in compliance with global best practices and in adherence with COVID-19 Pandemic safety protocol.

The registration portal opens on Wednesday 5th May and closes Saturday 29th May 2021.

The bursary scheme is an educational endowment in the constituency services budgeted for the esteemed people of Lagos East Senatorial District.

The Senator’s passion for higher qualitative education as a veritable vehicle for maximizing enormous opportunities in today’s knowledge economy is the motivation for the endowment targeted at brilliant, studious but indigent indigenes in the 16 local government and local council development areas of the Lagos East District.

The bursary is expected to serve as a support to students in furtherance of their academic pursuit.

The scheme is the latest in the series of interventions for different demographics in the Lagos East Senatorial District.

Recall that the need numbering over 2,000 who are badly hit by the devastating impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic have been getting bi-monthly financial assistance from the Senator Abiru since January.

Likewise, in a clear demonstration of love for primary pupils in the Lagos East District, Senator Abiru also donated 150,000 facemasks to Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBUB for onward distribution to school pupils in the district.

Members of the Bursary Advisory Board are: Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a lecturer at the Political Science Department, Lagos State University, LASU and Segun Anifowoshe, a senior technocrat with the Lagos State Government among others.
