CITIZENS COMPASS— Ahead of the Nomination of candidates meeting of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, slated for tomorrow, Monday, January 12, 2026, Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has written the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, over the Nomination process for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland in the State.
The letter was written by W.K Shittu(SAN), the solicitor to Wasiu Ayinde.
The letter dated Thursday, January 8, 2026 alleged exclusion from the selection process. It was titled, “Representation against the wrongful attempts not to follow due process in the nomination of candidates to fill the vacancy in the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland,”
This came barely two weeks after Wasiu Ayinde withdrew a suit against the Nomination process.
Citizens Compass reported that there are four ruling houses that produce candidates for the Awujale stool which is being done turn-by-turn.
They are Anikinaiya, Fidipote, Fusengbuwa, and Gbelegbuwa.
Citizens Compass reported that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is the next in line to produce the next Awujale.
Ayinde claimed that the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, has been issuing directives that contravene the Chieftaincy Declaration, Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State alleging that these measures are intended to disenfranchise him from contesting for the throne.

The letter dated January 8, 2026, was addressed to the Ogun State Governor, through the Honourable Commissioner and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State.
“Dear sir,
Representation against the wrongful attempts not to follow due process in the nomination of candidates to fill the vacancy in the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland
The above captioned subject matter refers.
We remain solicitors to Mr Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Adesanya (hereinafter referred to as our Client’) and on whose instructions we write this letter.
We wish to bring to your notice that the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government Government in the exercise of his right pursuant to the relevant provisions of the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State wrote a letter dated 6th January, 2026 with Ref No. 10LG.5841 to the head of Fusengbuwa Ruling House directing the ruling house to hold the statutory meeting to nominate candidate(s) to fill the vacant occurring in the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland within 15 days.
It is surprising that whilst members of the family were preparing for the important meeting, one Prince Adeleye Lateef Ademuyiwa who described himself as the Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) of the family issued a notice directing candidates to pick up nomination cards and appear before a screening committee under the Chairmanships of Prince Alhaji Mitiu Adenuga and that the nomination exercise will take place on 12th January, 2026, at Bisbod Events Center. The notice further directed that the nomination exercise will be done by delegates to be selected at a meeting scheduled for 10th January, 2026.
It is a matter of deep concern to our client that all the illegal directives that are unknown to the Chieftaincy declaration, Obas and Chiefs Law and the letter of the Secretary of Ijebu-Ode Local Government were included in the letter of the family to the Local Government dated 6th January, 2026. It is clear that there are plans by the leadership of the ruling house to disenfranchise members of the ruling house desirous of participating in the exercise of nomination of candidates to fill the vacancy occurring in the stool of Awujale of Ijebuland.
We wish to emphasise that all members of the ruling house are entitled to attend this important meeting to nominate candidates of their choice. A group of people in the ruling house cannot usurp the rights of members of the ruling house to freely nominate candidates of their choice. It is needless to State that the attempt by certain individuals in the ruling house to hijack the process of nomination of candidates will certainly create a crisis in a process that should be seamless.
We State in specific terms that the directive providing for screening of candidates and nomination by delegates are not only inconsistent with the spirit and letter of the chieftaincy declaration but also the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021.
We counsel that in the larger interest of justice and compliance with due process, you will take timeous steps to address these fundamental concerns capable of affecting the integrity of the entire process.
In particular, our client’s concern of attempts by certain elements to preclude hom from the process in flagrant violation of the letters of the Law will be resisted, and we hope that your intervention will ensure that justice is done to all parties involved in the process including our client.

As of the time of filing this report, there were no indications that Wasiu Ayinde’s solicitor had received a response from the government.
Meanwhile, a few days to the scheduled Nomination meeting of the Fusengbuwas, the social media has been awash with a business mogul, Prince Abimbola Onabanjo, who was believed to be the next Awujale as friends and fans have been congratulating him and posting different pictures of him.
However, Onabanjo in a social media post thanked his followers with a caution: I, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo of the Fusengbuwa Royal House, sincerely appreciate the outpouring of goodwill, prayers, and expressions of support received from friends, associates, and well-wishers across various platforms in recent days. I feel the love overwhelmingly and remain deeply grateful for it all.
I am truly honoured by the love and confidence shown by you all and feel profoundly humbled. However, I respectfully emphasise that the process for the selection of the Awujale of Ijebuland is a sacred and time-honoured tradition, governed strictly by established customs. As the saying goes, ‘ilufẹ́mil’óyè’ it is the town that bestows the crown and I feel the love from my people, which is why, in the interest of preserving the sanctity, dignity, and integrity of Ijebu tradition, I, Omooba Abimbola Onabanjo, humbly appeal to supporters, well-wishers, and members of the public to kindly refrain from referring to me as the Awujale or circulating materials that suggest a conclusion has already been reached.
I remain committed to upholding the values, unity, and heritage of Ijebuland and respectfully urge all concerned to allow the rightful processes to take their course.
I am sincerely grateful for the continued goodwill and assure everyone of my utmost respect for tradition, peace, and harmony within Ijebuland.
