CITIZENS COMPASS—Airtel Nigeria has received two major honours at the 2026 Marketing EDGE Awards, receiving the Leadership Award in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Most Innovative Telecom Operator of the Year.

The awards were presented at the 14th edition of the Marketing EDGE Awards, held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Ten Degrees Event Centre, Billings Way, Oregun, Lagos. The annual awards recognise brands, organisations and professionals for excellence, innovation and contributions to Nigeria’s marketing communications and wider business landscape.

The two recognitions reflect different but complementary aspects of Airtel Nigeria’s operations, from its investments in connectivity and technology to its initiatives focused on education, digital inclusion and community development.

The CSR Leadership Award recognises Airtel Nigeria’s continued investment in initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for young people and supporting communities. Among these is the company’s School Adoption Programme, which has seen the renovation and upgrade of several public primary schools, including classrooms and ICT facilities, to create more conducive environments for teaching and learning.

Airtel Nigeria’s education interventions also include its partnership with UNICEF through the Reimagine Education programme, which supports efforts to expand access to digital learning opportunities for children.

The company’s wider social impact agenda also extends to supporting the development of technology talent. In March 2026, the Airtel Africa Foundation inducted the first Nigerian cohort into its Tech Fellowship, awarding full scholarships to 70 undergraduate students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related courses at public universities across Nigeria.

Speaking at the scholarship presentation, Airtel Africa Foundation Chairman, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, highlighted the importance of investing in underserved young people and building Africa’s technology talent.

“True legacy is not measured by the awards we win or the volume of SIM cards we sell; it is measured by the lives we save, the people we feed, and the students we support when the line between success and failure is at its thinnest.”

He added that the Foundation’s focus is on creating opportunities for talented young Africans and ensuring that the continent develops the skills required to participate meaningfully in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The second recognition, Most Innovative Telecom Operator of the Year, highlights Airtel Nigeria’s continued expansion of its network, products and services as connectivity becomes increasingly central to how Nigerians work, learn, communicate and access services.

Airtel has continued to invest in network capacity and technology, including the expansion of its 4G and 5G services, while strengthening its broadband, fibre, data and enterprise offerings. The company has also continued to develop digital and financial services designed to meet the changing needs of individuals and businesses.

These investments have been accompanied by efforts to improve the customer experience. In August 2026, Airtel Nigeria expanded its network of premium experience centres as part of a broader retail strategy aimed at making customer support and access to services more convenient. According to Dinesh Balsingh, CEO of Airtel Nigeria, the expansion complements the company’s investments in network capacity and technology.

“Quality of service extends across the entire customer journey. It includes the strength and reliability of the network, the quality of our products and the ease with which customers can access support. These premium experience centres bring those elements together in a more convenient environment and give our customers a better way to engage with Airtel,” Balsingh said.

The Marketing EDGE recognitions come as Nigeria’s digital economy continues to evolve, with connectivity playing an increasingly important role in education, business, financial services, entertainment and everyday communication.

For Airtel Nigeria, the awards bring together two areas of its work which are the development of connectivity and digital solutions that respond to the needs of a changing economy, and investments in programmes that extend the benefits of technology and related opportunities to more people and communities.

These latest honours are in addition to Airtel Nigeria’s record of industry recognition for its contributions to telecommunications, innovation and corporate social responsibility, while highlighting the growing relationship between technology, social impact and national development.
