Another governor quits PDP
CITIZENS COMPASS— Osun State Governor, Adeola Adeleke, will soon join another political party following his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).
Adeleke resigned from PDP on Monday citing party crisis for his resignation.
The State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on Tuesday, said the Governor will formally join a new political party before December 13, 2025.
Earlier, the Governor said he submitted his resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.
Speaking on a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, the Commissioner said the resignation followed prolonged internal crises within PDP.
Earlier on Monday, the PDP Chairman in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, announced that the party would not hold Tuesday’s primary because of deep internal divisions. He also said the Governor was no longer interested in contesting for the party’s ticket due to the crisis.
But a letter from the party’s national secretariat later surfaced, insisting that the primary would still take place on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
Amid these conflicting positions, a letter dated November 4, 2025 and made public on Monday evening showed that the Governor had already withdrawn from the party.
The letter, addressed to the Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, explained that the ongoing turmoil in the PDP pushed him to take the decision. The letter, titled “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)”, stated:
Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”
