Anxiety as banker commits suicide in Ikorodu 

CITIZENS COMPASS —There was anxiety along the Lagos Road area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, last Monday, when the female marketer of a bank, Amarachi Ugochukwu, was found dead in one of the rest rooms. 

Although the Bank is yet to make an official statement as regarfs this but it was learnt that fear gripped some other workers in the Bank after the incident which occurred on Monday, January 8, 2024. 

“What a tragic way to start the new year, “ a bank staff who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent last night when he was contacted on phone. 

Explaining the tragic incident, he said the workers were on their respective beats on that fateful day when one of them, Amarachi, excused herself leaving her bag containing her personal effects on her table. 

“Few minutes later, her phone kept ringing repeatedly which drew the attention of other members of staff who expected her to come and respond to her call but she was not on sight. 

“Having waited for so long, they combed everywhere in search of her without luck after which it occurred to one of them to check the rest rooms but one of them was locked from behind which was later forced open. 

“Alas! Amarachi’s lifeless body was found on the floor witj a plastic of a popular insecticide and a suicide note. 

“The bank tried to manage the situation to avoid panicking among customers but policemen from the Ikorodu Division were invited to the scene, “

Citizens Compass explored all avenues to reach the bank for comments but this met a brickwall. 

However, sources along Lagos Road said 

Ugochukwu, was suspected to have died of suicide.

ilet, was said to have found it locked from inside. Apprehension set it when several knocks on the door were greeted with silence from within.

When the door was forced open, she was found on the floor, motionless. 

Beside her was a suicide note which reads,” Nothing is working in my life. My brain is clogged up. The economy is getting harder. My decisions are wrong. My mind is messed up. The future doesn’t seem bright at all, I see extreme hardship, and I can’t bear the pain anymore. I’m sorry Mom, I’m sorry Dad”…

She further apologized to five other persons, mentioning their names and ended the note with “Dear Lord, have mercy on me”.
It was gathered that the management team 9f the Bank hurriedly invited a medical doctor tp the scene for possible mefical examinations but she was confirmed dead. 

Policemen later deposited her body at the morgue of Ikorodu General Hospital. 

Residents said activities havr since resumed at the Bank.
