APC members protest alleged imposition of candidates in Lagos

CITIZENS COMPASS– Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), from the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in Lagos State, on Friday, staged a protest over what they described as an alleged planned imposition of councillorship candidates in the area.

The peaceful protest took place at Allen Junction, Ikeja where the protesters bore placards with various inscriptions alleging that some of their leaders were planning imposition of councillors across the six wards in Onigbongbo.

Addressing the protesters, a former councillor in the area, Olukayode Abiodun Opayemi, said the peaceful protest was to draw the attention of apex leaders to their plights. “We stand against the imposition of candidates. It will never work .”

He implored President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call some party leaders in Onigbongbo to order.

In a telephone conversation with Citizens Compass, one of the protesters,Ndubisi Nwachukwu, said the planned imposition of candidates would affect development in the entire Onigbongbo.

Another protester, Bayode Jojolola alleged that the APC chairmanship primaries held at state secretariat, Acme Road, Ikeja, last Saturday, were marred with irregularities.

He said that was why they were staging a peaceful protest before it spread to Onigbongbo.

“They did an ill-organised chairmanship primary election but the counsellorship did not hold throughout the six wards. They are trying to impose their preferred candidates.”
