Aroyewun lauds Jimi Benson for New Smart Police Station

CITIZENS COMPASS— The Council Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area(IBLCDA), Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, yesterday, lauded the newly commissioning New Smart Police Station; Divisional Headquarters, Elepe area of the Council.

The newly commissioned Divisional Headquarters is an equipped modern security facility facilitated by Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson; Member, Federal House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal security and modernise policing at the grassroots.

The facility, delivered through the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, is designed to enhance rapid response, improve operational efficiency and curb criminal activities across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and the wider Ikorodu Division.

Speaking at the event, Aroyewun commended Hon. Babajimi Benson, for his consistent efforts in attracting impactful development projects to Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and the Ikorodu Division at large. He noted that the new divisional headquarters would have a positive impact on security by reducing criminality and strengthening coordinated policing, while urging residents to embrace the facility as their own and cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure its effective utilisation.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, in his goodwill message, praised Hon. Babajimi Benson for facilitating what he described as a timely and strategic intervention that would leave a lasting legacy for Elepe and neighbouring communities. Also speaking at the commissioning, Mohammed Femi Sheidu, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) appreciated the community for the warm reception and assured residents of sustained partnership, noting that the Trust Fund remains committed to supporting the Nigeria Police Force with modern infrastructure and continued collaboration with host communities.

The Inspector-General of Police who was ably represented by DCP Dayo Akinbisehin, a senior officer associated with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, conveyed the IGP’s goodwill to the people of Elepe and Ikorodu at large. He assured citizens of the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to work closely with communities to foster peace, prevent crime and deepen trust, stressing that effective policing thrives on strong police–community cooperation.

In his remarks, Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson linked the commissioning of the Smart Police Station to the broader security and economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that deliberate efforts to improve security and stabilise the economy are yielding positive results. He cited the unusual stability of the naira against the dollar as elections approach, the gradual reduction in the cost of food items, and assured that more benefits would unfold before the end of the first quarter of 2026. He further announced his commitment to fix the access road leading from Oba Ijaolu Road to the divisional headquarters and provide a brand new Hilux patrol vehicle to enhance the operational effectiveness of the new station.

Stakeholders agreed that the Elepe Smart Police Station represents a critical step toward safer communities, improved policing and stronger police–community partnership, reinforcing renewed efforts to secure lives and property across Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA and the Ikorodu Division.
