Boy accidentally shoots sister to death

CITIZENS COMPASS– A young boy has accidentally pulled the trigger that reportedly killed his sister in Delta State.

The incident occurred while he was playing with their father’s hunting rifle.

Spokesperson, Delta State Police Command, Bright Date, yesterday, disclosed this in a video shared on his X Handle.

He said the children’s father, a hunter, left his long-range single-barrel gun unattended and within reach of his kids. The boy, who had reportedly handled the firearm multiple times without adult supervision, unintentionally discharged it during one of his unsupervised moments, killing his sister instantly.

“This long-range single-barrel gun belongs to the father of one of the suspects,” the officer said. “The father is also a suspect because his carelessness brought us here today.”

The officer added that the boy confessed to frequently playing with the weapon and described how, on the day of the incident, the gun went off, resulting in his sister’s death.

When interrogated, the father revealed that he had inherited the firearm from his own father and had been using it for hunting, unaware that his son had been accessing it. “The gun na my papa gun. Na hunting I dey use am for,” he said in Pidgin English.

The boy, who also appeared in the video, stated his age and gave a brief account of what happened, though visibly distressed.

“I pray and hope I don’t have to bring this kind of report to you again because it’s so sad. The father claimed he is a hunter, his 16-year-old son, who always plays with his dad’s gun on this Faithful day, was playing with the gun, shot and killed his younger sister.”
