…Police prevent arson
CITIZENS COMPASS— Two days to the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on Monday, crushed a man to death while dashing along the expressway in Lagos State.
The incident occurred at about 3.30p.m around Owode-Oniirin, inward Ikorodu.
The swift response of the Nigeria Police Force prevented arson on the bus after it was vandalised by a mob just as many passengers in the bus hurriedly escaped from the bus.
The bus driver has escaped into thin air.
Eye witnesses’ accounts told Citizens Compass that the deceased who was planning for Eid-el-Kabir met his untimely death while dashing across the expressway.
An eyewitness, Mr Ibrahim Olanrewaju, gave a blow-by-blow account of the unfortunate incident.
According to him: He (the deceased) was hungry, so he bought some snacks and a bottle of drink and was dashing across the expressway to take the food when he ran into the bus.
The bus driver was unaware that the deceased was being dragged by the bus until people drew his attention to this.
By the time he stopped somewhere, the deceased had been seriously wounded and died.
On noticing this, colleagues of the deceased rushed to the scene to vandalise the bus whose driver had escaped into thin air.
Not only this, they were sourcing for petrol and matches in an attempt to set the bus ablaze but the arrival of Police prevented this.
The colleagues also resisted an attempt to deposit his body in a morgue.
As I speak, about 30 Policemen are at the scene to prevent breakdown of law and order at the scene.
