CITIZENS COMPASS— Following a series of criminal activities in Ikorodu Division in Lagos State, the Lagos State Police Command on Monday, said it has inaugurated a squad to counter the criminal elements.

Spokesperson for the Command, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement.

Citizens Compass reported that a community in the Division, Igbe, a border town between Igbogbo/baiyeku and Ijede Local Council Development Areas had witnessed a series of attacks by armed men which had thrown residents into panic.

Recall that Banana and God’s Time estates were among the communities that were attacked by the armed men but the spokesperson when contacted said it was mere use of banger.

However, she disclosed in a statement that the Command had inaugurated ‘Command Sweepers’ Squad’ in the area.

The statement reads: In response to the recent concerns and outcry by residents of Ikorodu over rising criminal activities in some parts of the axis, the Lagos State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has inaugurated a Special Tactical Security outfit known as the ‘Command Sweepers’ Squad’ to tackle crime and restore public confidence within the area.

The Squad, which is a temporary intervention security outfit created to address the growing incidents of crimes and criminality within Ikorodu and adjoining areas, comprises officers drawn from Command Tactical Teams, RRS, Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF of the Lagos State Police Command, alongside personnel from other sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), all working collaboratively to combat criminality within Ikorodu and its environs. The Squad is strategically situated in Ijede to ensure swift deployment and easy access to all parts of Ikorodu and adjoining communities for effective crime prevention and rapid response operations.

To further strengthen operational effectiveness, the Squad has also been equipped with operational resources, including patrol vehicles and three (3) Armoured Personnel Carriers recently presented to the Lagos State Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

The Squad has been strategically deployed to identified black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

The Commissioner of Police assures residents that the operation will be conducted professionally and in line with the rule of law, while urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Command with timely and credible information, through any of the emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
