Council boss inaugurates JTF, donates operational vehicles to reduce crime in Ikorodu

CITIZENS COMPASS —The Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, on Monday charged all the local security outfit to work in synergy with the Nigeria Police to ensure safety of lives and properties in Ikorodu

Adesina made the call during the inauguration of Joint Task Force (JTF) at the council Secretariat in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Citizens Compass reports that the chairman also donated utility vehicles and motorcycles to facilitate their operations in fighting crime in Ikorodu.

added that the personnel’s were selected among the existing group like Onyabo, Agbekoya Vigilante Group of Nigeria(VGN) among others.

“Am happy that the inauguration of JTF in Ikorodu is taking place today and urge them to work with Nigeria police.

“What we have done is to coordinate the already established security groups.

”We put them together to ensure peace and security of lives and property of residents for the local government.

“What we have done today will put rest to the minds of millions of residents in terms of security issue,” he said.

According to the chairman, the council sent an executive bill to the legislative arm during the process and a Bi-law was enacted to guide the operations of the JTF.

The chairman said that working in synergy with police became necessary because they were indigenes and would be abreast with the terrain, criminal hideouts and the black spots compare to a newly posted officer who has less idea about the cimmunity.

Adesina advised the officers to work diligently with the police and not make unnecessary arrest but ensure that only the offenders were arrested.

The chairman appreciated Gov. Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State on his effort in ensuring Lagos is peaceful and Ex Deputy Gov. Prince Abiodun Ogunleye who stood and ensure the security architecture of Ikorodu became reality.

“The local security outfit is a planned and coordinated response in line with my resolve to end crime rate withing the local government.

The idea of establishing the outfit is inline with the THEMES agenda of the governor of the state.

“The council sent an executive bill to the legislative arm, while processing the bill, we engage stakeholder and conducted public hearing before it was finally approved and became law,” he said

Earlier, Prince Ogunleye, urged all the local security outfits to work together for effective and efficient service delivery to the people of the local government and the Local Council Development Areas.

According to him, since the coordination of local security outfits is under the supervision of the local governments, “all the council should work together so that there would be no hideouts for criminals in all the communities”.

The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Shotobi, represented by Baale Ojogbe, Kayode Olomo, urged the council to engage the personnel on continuous training for uptimal performance.

Also speaking, Mr Eniola Davies, Head of the local security outfit promised that they would deliver and discharge their duties in accordance with the law and work in synergy with the police to combat insecurity.

Dignitaries present includes, Mr Gbolahan Ogunleye, member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Area Commander, Area N, ACP Bawa Saidu, Divisional Police Officer(DPO) Igbogbo Division CSP Aderemi Balogun, political and community leaders among others
