CITIZENS COMPASS—A few hours after he was assaulted and stripped naked by some suspected hoodlums, the suspended chairman of Owo Local Government in Ondo State, Tope Omolayo, on Tuesday, resumed his official duties.
Omolayo took to his official Facebook page to make the announcement.Recalled that the council chairman was attacked on Monday and this caused fear among residents.
Fracas reportedly broke out when the chairman who had been suspended for six months arrived at the secretariat to resume duties. Unfortunately, some hoodlums intercepted and assaulted him.
The situation reportedly got out of control leading to his being stripped naked.An eye witness, Adinson Ola said the situation almost escalated as some loyalists to the chairman came to his aid but this was too late.
“The chairman did not see it coming as he received the beating of his life. They beat him mercilessly, tore his clothes and left him almost completely naked.“Workers on duty escaped through various means scampering for safety.
The hoodlums came with dangerous weapons and guns to disperse people.“Also, they mentioned a certain dignitary in Owo to be behind the attack.”
Citizens Compass reported that normalcy later returned to the scene although there was no official statement about the incident.
The council chairman has returned to work after the assault.
