CITIZENS COMPASS— Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has provided food relief to no fewer than 1,500 vulnerable residents of Kpaduma II Community in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to supporting underserved communities and contributing to efforts to address food insecurity across Nigeria.
The recent intervention, delivered through the bank’s Food Bank Initiative, saw beneficiaries receive food packs, with each pack enough to provide meals for at least a family of five.
Speaking during the outreach, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative was designed to provide immediate relief to vulnerable households while restoring hope and enabling beneficiaries to focus on improving their livelihoods.
“Food is fundamental to life, and when people have their basic nutritional needs met, they are better positioned to focus on their aspirations and livelihoods. We selected Kpaduma II because, despite being within the Federal Capital Territory, it remains an underserved community with families who need this kind of support. Through this intervention, we want to ease the burden of feeding and give residents the hope to dream, thrive and prosper,” Nwagboh said.
The Fidelity Bank spokesperson added that the intervention went beyond the distribution of food items, stressing that the bank’s objective was also to restore hope among beneficiaries.
“This outreach is beyond just giving out food items; what we are offering is hope. Over 1,500 beneficiaries here today are getting not just the food packs, but also the hope to dream, hope to go about realising whatever they set out to do. So, our charge is for them to eat, hope, thrive and prosper,” he added.
He disclosed that the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, launched in April 2023, had reached more than 300 communities across the country, including communities around Mararaba and Mabushi, with plans to extend the intervention to more communities across different regions and states.
Also speaking, the Regional Bank Head, Abuja III, Fidelity Bank Plc, Martin Ayodele, said the bank recognised that the wellbeing of communities where it operates is closely linked to sustainable development.
“At Fidelity Bank, we recognise that the prosperity of any community is closely connected to the wellbeing of its people. Through the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, we are providing practical support to vulnerable households. Our intervention here in Kpaduma II is part of our commitment to creating meaningful impact in the communities where we operate,” Ayodele said.
The outreach was organized in partnership with the Abbasid Foundation. The CEO/Founder of the foundation, Hajia Hauwa Abbas, noted that the foundation’s partnership with Fidelity Bank had enabled food interventions in several states, including Benue, Sokoto, Yobe and the FCT.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Chief of Kpaduma II, Chief Samson Auta, commended Fidelity Bank for the intervention, saying the gesture would provide significant relief to residents.
“We sincerely appreciate Fidelity Bank for remembering the people of Kpaduma II and coming to our community with this food support. This intervention means a lot to our people, particularly families who are finding it difficult to meet their daily needs. We are grateful for this show of concern and kindness, and we hope that this partnership will continue,” Auta said.
Beneficiaries Rose Isa and Helen John expressed appreciation to Fidelity Bank for the intervention, saying the food support would help ease the burden of feeding their families.
The Fidelity Food Bank Initiative forms part of the Bank’s broader sustainability and corporate social responsibility agenda, through which the bank continues to deploy targeted interventions aimed at improving livelihoods and creating meaningful social impact in communities across Nigeria.
