Gridlock as petrol tanker explodes on  Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

CITIZENS COMPASS –An early morning traffic jam was experienced among road users along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday when a petrol-laden tanker exploded at the Ibafo/Aseese axis of the Expressway in Ogun State.

The explosion reportedly occurred at about 7a.m but normalcy was returned at about 8.30 a.m. to pave the way for the free flow of traffic.

Spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement.
He said no casualty was recorded from the explosion.

“Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene, with personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) redirecting traffic, he added.

“Fire update at Ibafo. As of 0830 hrs, the fire has finally been put to rest. Traffic is gradually moving,” the statement reads.
Operatives are on the ground to ease the traffic. I will provide additional updates later.”

Recall that the Expressway had played host to a series of tanker explosion incidents leaving many travelers stranded on several occasions.
