CITIZENS COMPASS— A social political group, The Renewal Group in Lagos on Monday, petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently set up a public enquiry into cases of corruption, land grabbing and abuse of office by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh.
The petition, addressed to Tinubu, was contained in a letter dated Monday, March 16, 2026.
The letter signed by the Founder, Mr. Lai Omotola, was titled, “Urgent request to set up a public enquiry into cases of corruption, land grabbing, abuse of office, abuse of human rights, disobedience of court order and illegal demolition of citizens’ property by the Lagos State Commissioner Of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh.”
It reads: Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
We extend special greetings to you and hope that this letter reaches you in good health and Godly wisdom.
We, the undersigned members of The Renewal Group in Lagos, have come to realize that unless you intervene in policing in Lagos State, the present lawlessness as allegedly perpetuated by CP Moshood Jimoh may raise bigger security concerns in Lagos in a dimension the country has never witnessed before.
Your Excellency, under the watch of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, in unprecedented land-grabbing activities, armed policemen and thugs are allegedly deployed to citizens’ lands across Lagos to forcefully take over such lands. If there is any protest from the owners of the property, they are arrested and taken to a mobile court that immediately sends them to Kirikiri Prison.
In instances where citizens secure court orders, such orders allegedly make no meaning to CP Moshood Jimoh. He is also said to decline to collect court processes, making it impossible for citizens to ventilate their pains in court.
Furthermore, petitions on the same matter sent to the Inspector-General of Police, the Police Service Commission, and other police formations in the country allegedly remain unattended to.
Recently, a car owner was alleged to have driven against traffic (one-way). However, it was alleged that it was the policeman who collected the citizen’s car and drove it on one-way traffic. That citizen is presently in Kirikiri Prison as we write this letter.
We have also discovered that those allegedly giving the Commissioner of Police backing include two Special Advisers to Mr. President, a retired DIG at the Police Service Commission, a sitting Senator, and some top-ranking persons in the Lagos State Government, whose names will be revealed during the public hearing.
Mr. President, if you set up this public enquiry, you will be shocked to your marrow at the level of atrocities this Commissioner of Police has allegedly committed and how he has denigrated the Centre of Excellence to something that cannot be fully stated in this letter.
Our hope is in you to hear innocent citizens and bring an end to this reckless lawlessness.
