CITIZENS COMPASS— A whopping sum of Two Million Naira has been declared missing following the alleged arrest of a thrift collector, Alfa Rasak Oni, by some police personnel attached to the Olosan Division in the Mushin area of Lagos State.
According to the findings, the 26-year-old Oni ran into the personnel when he acted as a proxy for his mother, Latifat Balogun, to collect and disburse some money to her clients.
On his way to the vicinity, Oni was said to be accosted at Total gas station, Mushin, at about 8:30am, on August 6th, 2026, by officers of Olosan Police Station, Mushin.
Citizens Compass reports that at the point of his arrest, Oni told the personnel that he was acting as a proxy to his mother, whom he made efforts to contact on the phone; unfortunately, the personnel allegedly seized the phone and removed the Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) card therein, leaving the boy incommunicado.
Eyewitness accounts said that after waiting for hours without hearing from his brother, Balogun went in search of her son, and that was how she got wind about what transpired between Oni and the Police personnel.
An eyewitness, Mr Adio Abdul, told Citizens Compass that Balogun immediately headed for Olosan Division to ascertain the condition of Oni, only to receive another shocking piece of information that the Police could not produce her arrested son.
According to Abdul, “The Police could not ascertain the whereabouts of Alfa and the woman raised the alarm which attracted a popular female human rights figure who put a call across the Divisional Police Officer (DPO),” he said.
The eyewitness who spoke with Citizens Compass yesterday said that two police personnel were arrested. “In the course of investigations, two police personnel, Sifo and Akin, were arrested, and both confirmed that they arrested Oni, but none of them could ascertain his whereabouts. The arrested personnel confessed to the arrest of Oni but could not ascertain his whereabouts.
“As we were duly informed by Balogun, Oni had N6m as at the time of his arrest, but the Police did not provide tangible information on this,”
The search for Oni continued as of 10p.m on Saturday, throwing his family into confusion and uncertainty.
Citizens Compass reported that the family continued the search in the early hours of Sunday only to discover at about 7a.m. that some unknown faces came to drop Oni at the entrance of his sister’s house.
The victim was said to be unconscious at the time he was dropped.
Also, a bag containing his cell phone and N4m was with him, but he was too weak to provide information about what transpired.
A video of Oni as monitored by Citizens Compass captured the family members screaming and rallying round their son amidst confusion.
In one of the videos, Oni, who was dressed in Ankara, was completely weak and could not utter a word.
The video captured the family appealing to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, to unravel the situation.
Contacted, Balogun confirmed that Oni has been hospitalised after he was dropped off by some unknown faces.
She added that out of the N6m his brother had, only N4m was found while N2m was missing.
In a chat with Citizens Compass, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, promised to get to the root of the matter.
