CITIZENS COMPASS— Suspected gunmen have reportedly abducted eight students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), Ogun State.
The students were reportedly abducted at about 9p.m yesterday.
GAPOSA is a privately owned polytechnic located along Km 55, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Saapade Estate (near Ishara), Ogun State, Nigeria.
The students were reportedly abducted at their residence in the Ipara-Remo area of the state.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, a student of GAPOSA said the assailants stormed the residence and took eight students away.
Following the attack, the school management has announced the cancellation of both computer-based and written examinations scheduled for today.
In a notice issued to students, the institution urged calm while confirming that only today’s examinations had been affected.
“Following the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, today’s examination has been cancelled,” the statement read.
“However, tomorrow’s examination remains scheduled as planned. If there is any change, an official announcement will be communicated promptly.
“For now, all students are encouraged to remain calm, stay positive, and continue preparing for their examinations. We are hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon.”
Confirming the incident, spokesperson, Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said there had been reports of an abduction in the Ipara area saying the Command has deployed personnel to the scene.
She did not specify the number of the kidnapped students.
The incident occurred in less than 24 hours when suspected armed robbers stormed a student hostel occupied by students of D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori area of the State killing a final year student of Marketing Department, Ahmed Sekinat.
The hostel was located in t
he Eruku area.
